A History of Homeschooling in Idaho
The Politics of Pie
Travel back to 1984, when six homeschool parents were jailed for the “crime” of schooling their children at home. Meanwhile, their children were forcibly removed from their home by armed deputies and placed in the foster care system. Things are much different today, but for nearly thirty years, homeschooling families in Idaho struggled to earn their freedom.
This journey toward unprecedented liberty hit plenty of potholes before finally reaching a glorious destination. In this book, we will explore the twists and turns that threatened their nascent freedoms, as well as the favor that came from unexpected quarters.
May all those who come after the pioneer generation treasure the freedom that they have been graciously given. May they strive to protect this “fragile thing ” they have been graciously given. May they strive to protect it because it is easy to lose!
“Freedom is a fragile thing. It is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”
